How To Style Your Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt, a smart, classy, sophisticated piece for any woman to have in her wardrobe.

From high street to high end, from bright and bold, through to work wear and wedding appropriate patterns. Do we shy away from pencil skirts because we think they are 'too formal' or because they are so figure hugging? Possibly but I believe the right pencil skirt for you can be what every woman needs in her life.

The Styling

Skirt and Top - River Island,
Shoes - New Look
There are so many different ways to style a pencil skirt that I could potentially write a small book on it!
This for sure is the most important section of this post so listen up ladies.

As always the styling depends on so many things - the occasion, the material, the length, the detail, the colouring and of course the biggie, what the occasion is.
Take the outfit I am wearing at the beautiful hotel I stayed in in Croatia for example; The colours of the skirt are mostly pale nudes and creams mixed with some dark leaves running through. This gives the perfect opportunity to pair it with something darker on the top half, hence why I went for a black number.
I played with the classy style whist also using the chance to show off my tanned skin.

If this had been a more formal occasion and I didn't feel right in this choice of top I would have gone with a cool, lose fitting shirt tucked into the skirt to really define the waist.

Finally, the shoes; if you've been with me on here for a while you will know I have a great love of shoes so how could I miss this out?!
I personally think a pencil skirt always looks best paired up with a nice pair of heels as it elongates the leg and ties in with the classy, smart tone of the outfit.

Why A Pencil Skirt?

When done right I believe a pencil skirt can be one of the classiest, most beautiful looks a woman can go for.
It shows off the figure nicely without it showing too much; the mystery and dignity is kept.
It defines the woman's shape and flaunts what you've got.

I also believe it gives off that girl boss vibe which I personally don't think can ever be a bad thing.

Could the pencil skirt be classed as a daring choice? Potentially but I say go for it.
Would you go for a pencil skirt or is there a different look you like to go for? Let me know what you feel best in!

Always remember you're going to look best in whatever you feel most confident in so always go for that option! x

A Day Filled With Travel & Football!

It's currently 11:50pm and the whole of Porec has gone completely wild!

I have been up since 3:30am UK time but that sure doesn't stop me celebrating Englands win or joining in with part of Croatia's celebrations for their win, however I am now sitting on my hotel bed with the balcony door open listening to the MAJOR party going on over the water in Porec. The horns are gong, the music is raging and the football fans are singing loud enough for me to still hear them. It is completely insane and I love it!
Yes of course usually I would be across there joining in the party but I have been up since 3:30am and am in desperate need for some beauty sleep, although I'm not completely convinced I'm going to get it with this crazy lot carrying on the party!

As I assume you already know by now I have began my summer holiday in Croatia and I am already in love with th pace! Despite being up since what felt like (and could be classed as) the middle of the night I still love a day of traveling.
Today went so well I didn't even get told to go in the full body scanner or get searched at airport security which seems to usually happen a fair bit! So all in all it has been a pretty sound day.

Lifting Like A Girl

Lift, run, row, you name it, I am doing it!
As you may know I have been a gym addict for quite a long time now but recently I have majorly upped my game and went to see a personal trainer to put a 'proper' fitness plan together.
I honestly believe it was the best decision I could have made! Despite going to the gym so regularly I haven't always been super motivated and worked as hard as I could have, but boy has this plan made me push myself!
This is a major reason why I went to see a trainer. I love the feeling after a good workout and I'm very ready to get toned and to keep my lungs strong and healthy!
Before the plan was put together I sat down with a PT and told him what I wanted from it, all my goals and how often I wanted to be getting to the gym in a week. After leaving me for half an hour/45 minutes his first words back to me where "so this isn't going to be pretty but it will be worth it" THIS is where I wonder if I should be running out the door!!

Ryan has given me a three day programme and this is where I kick ass and put my backside into getting the body I want inside and out.

I have only done two sessions since getting my new plan so here is my first update picture and I will be regularly posting my 'journey' on my instagram! @headtotoegoodtogo
So please feel free to head over to my Insta to join me on this new fitness path.

Speak soon lovelies,

Summer Vibes Attract My Tribe

Top - Miss Selfridge, Jeans - Dorothy Perkins,
Shoes - Ego
It looks like summer is finally on it's way and the heat waves are coming! This gets me so happy and so excited.
I thought it was about time I shared my new fave fashion piece with you guys, this beautiful yellow cold shoulder top I picked up from Miss Selfridge a few weeks back.
Now I won't lie, I nearly didn't pick this up as I never go for this colour but I was in a daring mood and thought 'what have a got to lose' and boy am I glad I had that thought because it is honestly my new love.
I love the fit of it, it isn't too baggy, the fit is quite something for a vest top I personally think. I also became slightly obsessed with the tie details on the sleeve, it's such a small and simple design feature but I think it makes the whole piece if I'm honest.

Because the top is such a bright colour I wanted to pair it with something darker therefore I opted to go with my beloved black skinny jeans. On the day I wore this outfit I fancied another pop of colour so went with my red Ego heels to finish off the look which I think made the outfit come together nicely.

Let me know what pieces are your faves in this lovely summer weather we are experiencing.
Speak soon,
Meg

The Finest Denim Around

Denim, possibly something we reach for the most in our wardrobes at times. I have managed to find some of the best denim around, with a few other garments along the way, all from a little place called Black White Denim.
Before I start I want to be clear that this is not a sponsored post in any way, I just genuinely really like the shops pieces and wanted to include them on my blog!

I began with pairing the J Brand MARIA high rise skinny leg with the Scotch & Soda Amsterdams Blauw jacket -
The jacket is super light and easy to wear. I loved the smaller details on this jacket that really made the difference such as the small patchwork on the right side and the small zip up the left side.
It is an ideal piece to add to any outfit and instantly makes it stylish. I have rolled the cuffs up as this is a great way to show off any jewellery you may have on!
This item is £177 and I believe is well worth the cost. The denim is super soft and is roomy, allowing jumpers to fit easily underneath.

I paired the jacket with these beautiful J Brand MARIA high-rise skinny leg jeans.
I fell in love with how soft and comfortable these jeans are to wear, the fact they aren't tight on the waist I also find is a nice detail to them.
These are priced at £200.

I went on to pick up the 'I'm Bored' jumper from the Wildfox range.
This is a size XS and I definitely wouldn't have gone up a size. It was comfortable with plenty of room.
I think the piece is an easy wear, one that would  match up with a wide range of different garments. I like the fact the bottom of the jumper goes into the waist and isn't supper baggy.
Black White Denim are retailing this garment at £115.

I decided to pair the jumper with a lighter jean, but the same brand as the previous pair - J Brand MARIA high-rise skinny leg 26, costing £240.
I like the comfortable, figure hugging style of these jeans. I think they are extremely flattering and good for any occasion. Definitely a must for any ladies clothing range!

I'm All About The Draping

Shirt - New Look, Jeans - Dorothy Perkins,
Coat - Quiz, Bag - River Island
What are your thoughts on draping?
It is a style I don't usually take part in however I decided to give it a go when going out for a Mother's Day lunch last Sunday. It's safe to say I fell in love with the look!
I definitely felt it gave the look a smarter vibe to it, another reason for adding the coat was to bring the simple colours together to give it a warm feel.

All in all I definitely think draping is worth it and have no doubt in my decision!
This is now one of my new favourite outfits and go to outfit for a more formal occasion. Do you have a 'go to' outfit? If so let me know what it is!

Mad About The Jumper

   Junper - Dorothy Perkins,
Jeans - Topshop
Is it just me or are jumpers one of the best things to have in your wardrobe at the moment?
I am obsessed with my jumpers right now but this one is definitely my new favourite!
I love how I can wear it off the shoulder to make it a more interesting fit. I'm also pretty mad on the colour to be honest, however the baggy fit is for sure what has attracted me the most to this piece!
Something new I have also discovered with this jumper is tucking the front into jeans. I have always loved the look of tops being tucked only at the front but for some reason never been 'brave' enough to try it or when I have done in front of my mirror at home thought it didn't look right!
I have now decided to bite the bullet on that one particular problem and go 'what the hell' with it.
What are your thoughts on big baggy jumpers? Love or hate? Don't hesitate to leave a comment letting me know what your style is this winter!

Did Someine say It Was Vaentines Day?

Just in case you've been living in a hole recently, yesterday was Valentines Day!
Whether you're in a relationship or a single lady (or man!) no one could have missed this mass event of the year.
What I really want to know is how does Vday make YOU feel? Is it a day that makes you feel happy or a day that gives you negative feels?
As you may know I have spent Vday as a single pringle and I've got to be honest, it didn't bother me. Don't get me wrong, I think a loving, committed, happy and healthy relationship is the best BUT V Day didn't make me feel super alone or give me super negative feels.
However I know that some people do get negative vibes from it and I think this is so wrong that society is letting this happen.
I always want my blog to be a place filled with love and positivity, some may not say this is realistic but why would I want to throw any negative vibes into the world? Surely there's enough of that already?

However you spent your Vday I hope it gave you lots of smiles and you celebrated your love for someone in some way, whether it was love for family, a friend, or a partner, I hope you were feeling the love.

Speak soon my lovelies

Pancakes Galore!

Jumper - Dorothy Perkins
Happy belated pancake day guys!
Did you have your fair share of pancakes yesterday? I know I sure did! From savoury to sweet, I did them all!
Every single year I sit down to eat my pancakes and say to my mum "why don't we have these more often? They are so good" and then just say the same thing the following year!
But hey, I guess that's why pancake day is so special, because pancakes aren't something we have all the time.
I had a whole mix of things on my pancakes. I started off with cheese melted into them, then went for one with blueberries on top with maple syrup drizzled over the top then finished off having one with some good old Nutella because you can't beat a bit of Nutella I don't think.
What did you have on your pancakes? Make sure you let me know in the comments!
Whatever you decided to have on your pancakes, I hope you had an awesome day and enjoyed every  mouthful!

CAD/CAM Unit 120

I'm back! Sorry it's been forever since I last did a post  in my 'Diary of A Fashion Student'' area.
I am nearly a whole unit on from when I last spoke to you guys about my fashion work and I've got to say it has been one of my favourite units we have done so far.
It has been all about using CAD recourses - computer-aided-design, such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop which was the two pieces of software I have used for this unit.
I used images I had taken of the garment I had made from the previous unit and made it into a whole magazine cover.
We were to start from scratch with the design, however our tutor wanted us to use the name of a fashion magazine that already existed.
After doing some research I found a magazine I had never actually heard of called Void, which is what I used for inspiration for my very own magazine cover.
I already knew I wanted to create a cover that had a slight cartoony/illustration kind of look to it.
So eventually this is the design I created -
I then chose to come up with some different concepts using the model and name I already had which then gave me these designs -

The Duvet Coat Is My New Love

Okay, can someone please tell me why I never got the memo about how warm and amazing a duvet coat can be?
If you never got that memo either then you should definitely keep reading and strongly consider buying yourself a duvet coat!

My coat is from Pull & Bear and was a Christmas present. I don't think I have actually spent that much time out of it since receiving it! It is just the comfiest, warmest and softest item I think I have ever owned.
I have had some quite funny incidents with this coat though I've got to be honest.
There was a day when I had left college and the heavens decided to open and started chucking down on me, I decided to throw my hood up and make a dash to the train station. This all seemed like the perfect plan until it became apparent how massive the hood is and it flopped down properly and was covering most of my face!! #nightmare
I have since found a way to keep my hood in the right position though so it hasn't become a problem, instead just a funny memory to share of my fave new coat!
Another thing I really like about this coat is the length. It comes up to around my hips which isn't something I've had in this style of coat for a few years.
I have definitely been wearing this coat way more than I have ever worn any of my other waterproof coats before!

Let me know what your favourite winter coat is this season as I always love admiring all the fashion out there!
Speak soon lovelies.

The Best 4 Books For A BookWorm
