The Best 4 Books For A BookWorm

Yes, yes I am a major book worm! So I figured it would only be right to share my current top four books with you. All a little (or a lot) different, some humour, some thrillers and some that tug on them heart strings.
I'd love to hear your book recommendations in the comments below too!

First we have the incredible Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
by Gail Honeyman.
Wow! What a book. It's funny, emotional, heart wrenching; everything you want in a book. The detail you get in this book is incredible.
I was blown away by Eleanor and actually missed her once I'd finished the book. The book makes you think hard about the way we view people we come across throughout our lives.
Everyone needs a bit of Eleanor in their lives.

My next firm favourite is a thriller. One that kept shocking me
at every opportunity; What You Did by Claire McGowan.

A very raw, shocking and twisted thriller based on a
group of old uni friends who are doing a reunion at one
couples home. When someone gets attacked during what
was supposed to be a great evening filled with laughter,
old stories being told and a fair bit of wine, who will the attacker
be?

The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins, this gave me feels
like few other books have before.
It was the first adult thriller I had read and it made me fall in
love with thrillers.
It's gory, it's disturbing and it's gripping; everything you want
and more for a thriller.
The leading lady to this book completely sealed me in despite
her problems. I would recommend anyone to read this as it;s
a real page turner.

So let's come away from thrillers for a second yeah?
Okay well I'm going to talk about The Break by
Marian Keyes. I found this book so readable.
It was based on a married woman with teenage
children, a bit of a different read for me! I loved it
though, found it funny, emotional and empowering.

Let's Talk Periods

Why in 2019 is the topic of periods still such a huge taboo around the world? How has there been shame built around something which is a natural bodily function, allows us to create new life and occurs every month for around half of our world’s population? This makes no sense to me.

Now I was going to start by saying
if you are male and/or feel extremely uncomfortable talking about this topic then please click off this post but actually, please don’t. Please keep reading and find out how incredibly insane it is to feel awkward around this topic.

Today I found out that around a quarter of the world’s female population are of a reproductive age. Yet we still use phrases such as ‘Time of the Month’ and ‘Auntie Flow’ to avoid saying the word ‘period’.

By carrying on with the awkward silence on periods we are bringing future generations up to believe it is shameful to indicate you have started your period, which leads to lack of information for girls on how to deal with their menstrual cycle.

I was shocked to recently learn that around 137,000 girls miss school in the UK every year due to lack of access to basic sanitary products, the things possibly you and I take for granted.
Period poverty is a huge issue in some parts of the world whether it’s a family having to choose between food, warmth or menstrual hygiene or for rough sleepers who have no access to sanitary products.

I came across The Red Box Project, a charity set up in the UK back in 2017 with the aim of stopping girls having to miss school due to their periods. This is just one of many charities working to combat issues surrounding the taboo over periods.

If we all just start talking slightly more, more openly and confidently, maybe we will begin to see changes in how many issues there are.

Should We Really Train Our Bodies Everyday?

'Train every day to see quicker results' 'you must go to the gym every day if you want to see improvements to your body'
Recognise these quotes? Are you the one saying this to anyone who'll listen? Maybe you should have a rethink on the advice you're giving.

Yes it's great to exercise your body to keep it fit and healthy, however it's also extremely important for your body to have the chance to rest and recover too.

I train every other day, always leaving a rest day in between my workouts as I believe that is the best way you can treat your body.

Why Should We Have Rest Days?

Our rest days are just as important to our bodies as a workout day is.
Your rest day is allowing your muscles, bones, nerves and tissue the time to rebuild itself, this is how they grow bak stronger than ever.

Sleep is a huge part of what helps rest and recover the body along with drinking plenty of water and getting good foods inside you to refuel your body.

If we push our bodies too hard and do intense workouts everyday, overtime this will lead to your body crashing and being unable to perform how it use to, the recovery period will be a lot longer and more tiresome than a rest day will be.

The most important thing is to always listen to our bodies, if something hurts, stop and figure out why. Pushing through the pain rather than stopping to fix it could cause serious long term damage.

Always remember, if you're in a gym and have a question the PT's are there to help and advise. My Moto in life - it's always better to ask.

Styling Your White T This Summer

The classic white T, something every woman has in her wardrobe. It's the easy, effortless answer to every woman's wardrobe essentials.

Whether you're going shopping, on a brunch date with the girls or you're heading for the beach, a white T can have your back for all the occasions.

Do you feel like it's just a bit boring and plain? Looks like you haven't made the effort? Well keep reading so I can tell you all the ways this can not be the case and you can make this fashion piece your best friend.

The Styling
Top - H&M, Jeans, Jacket & Bag  - Dorothy Perkins

There are numerous ways you can style such a
basic piece to suit your personality and the occasion.

Personally one of my favourite ways is to dress it up with some blue jeans and a pair of pumps. This gives you room to bring in a slightly more eccentric jacket, like I have shown here.

As the weather gets warmer I will definitely be switching this look up by pairing it with a pair of light coloured denim shorts.

My personal favourite with a white T is to have one that is slightly over-sized but that still shows off your figure nicely when tucked into jeans, shorts or a skirt.

Why A White T?

Not quite sold on why you should have one of the most basic items of fashion in your wardrobe?
Okay let me say my fine piece then I will leave you in peace.

Some days we feel lazy, some days we are in a rush and other days we just think "what's the point". Well ladies, those are the days these simple pieces have your back.

No one need know you put practically zero thought into today's outfit. You are effortlessly stylish for all to see.

What Exactly Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Never heard of it? No, neither had I until around the age of 12/13.
It is an invisible illness, an illness that gets brushed under the carpet with not enough exposure. It’s a condition with an unknown cause to it. The most common time to be struck down by CFS is after a viral infection however this isn’t always the way it happens. For me though this was when I got diagnosed with the condition, both times, after nasty chest infections that had completely floored me.

But why don’t we talk about it? When I have told people that I have/had the condition and had to explain what it is they try to understand but I can see them trying to process it and maybe being slightly confused by it which I totally get. I was exactly the same when it first got explained to me. I was like “well I can just get a bit more sleep then I will feel better right?” Oh how wrong I was.

So what actually are the symptoms I hear you ask? Well the most common systems are extreme and prolonged periods of tiredness, possibly depression, a fever and aches and pains. It can cause people to be bed bound, not even having the energy to brush their own hair. Thankfully mine never went to this extreme. I did have to cut down my hours at school/college, cut out all physical exercise, cut down time spent on my phone, laptop and watching telly (which may not have been a bad thing if I’m honest!) along with smaller lifestyle changes too which I will go into at a later date.
Unfortunately, there is no ‘one fits all’ treatment that can get rid of the illness. Everyone has to figure what the right way of treating CFS is for them, whether that’s through a major lifestyle change or taking medication.
Cutting my hours down at school (first time around) and college (second time around) was tough for all sorts of reasons - keeping up with the work, keeping friendships going (thankfully I had amazing friends who understood as best they could and supported me the whole way through) and I had to try and keep myself sane! When I first got diagnosed (both times) I was in school/college for 2 hours a day, this may sound like bliss for some people, but I was knackered by the end of those two hours!

I have been clear of CFS for around 2 years now but I still have to be careful and listen to my body. I am going to be speaking much more on my platforms about how I picked myself back up from the condition and how I am living my life to the max whilst trying to keep that illness as far away from me as I possibly can.
I don’t think there’s nearly enough awareness of CFS as thre should be and support for people living with the condition, hence why I want to try and get the conversation going on my small corner of the internet.

How Can We Get The Most Out Of 2019?

Getting my s**t together in 2019!

I may be feeling slightly sleepy at 5:32pm, but surely that’s okay when it’s a Sunday, right?
New year new me? No, no, no, not for me; for me it’s more of a new year with some improvements thrown in.
There are a few things I’m changing this year in the areas of organization, positivity, finding my stride in life, getting more creative on here and creating content for my YouTube channel, just to name a few.
As I have openly spoke about for a few months now I have felt lost with my stride career wise. It is something I have and continue to struggle with. Yes, it does get me down and I have to be honest with you and myself and say there may be more days in the future that I will get down about it however I refuse to be in the same place a year from now. My goal is to find the career that is right for me in the here and now; it may not be what I will do forever and that’s okay in a generation that’s filled with endless possibilities and multiple career changes; but the promise I make to myself now? I won’t be still in the “career rut” I find myself in now.
Despite working behind a bar five nights a week I have SO much time on my hands since leaving college, therefore if I organize myself properly and get up at decent times I can get so much out of my days. Right at the beginning of the year I learnt how valuable it is to sit down over a weekend to set out your week ahead with what needs to be done, what you want to do and slot them all into your diary It is a game changer. It may sound obvious (I know, it is! Oops!!) but I never appreciated how valuable this could be before.
This ties in with being supper motivated to be back on my blog but also creating content for my YouTube channel. This is something I am super excited to be venturing into. I have already got two videos up this year which, no isn’t a lot considering it’s January 22ndtoday, but I have already promised myself that I won’t be putting major pressure on myself which seems to be working as since I decided all my plans for my channel I have got a video up two weekends on the run. My upload schedule is every Saturday/Sunday. This may increase as time goes on but for now that is the schedule I am going with.
I have smaller and more personal goals for the year ahead, some around saving money, learning about budgeting, how many books I want to read and a biggie, which also links in with my space online is growing my tribe on here, on my YouTube and on my social media platforms.
Are you thinking, but how the heck are you going to make sure you get what you want out of 2019? I know I was at first; I believe what is going to help me massively is one word, organization. To get the best result with anything in life I believe organization is always going to be the key.
So here’s to becoming the best I possibly can be at organizing the shit out of my 2019. Who’s with me?
I’d love to hear what your plans are for 2019, what you are wanting to achieve and how you’re going to get there!

A Perfect Knit

Cardigan - Primark, Vest - New Look,
Jeans - TopShop, Boots - New Look

Those chunky knits are everywhere right now and it couldn't be making me happier
Every year I get super excited for Autumn coming but this year I feel like I am embracing the fluffy cardigans more than ever. Does that make me a 90 year old woman really? Quite possibly but who the hell cares!

Another Autumn love of mine is the ankle boots and somehow I actually only had one pair therefore I had to order myself another pair from New Look.

This time of year is perfect for the combo due to the weather not always being too cold for leaving your coat at home, allowing the outfit to look effortless but still stylish is styled in the right way.

Ladies I hugely believe that if styled in the correct way,
they can look young, cosy and cute all at the same time.

As you can see at the top of this post, I got my chunky cardigan from Primark and I am in love, which also goes to show it doesn't have to be expensive to be right!

As you can see in the pictures I have styled my cardigan and boots with jeans, however, another way I love is with leggings and a simple t-shirt and your good to go.
One other way I am thinking of trying is with a casual dress.

Let me know if you can think of any other ways to style these pieces.

The End Of Versace?

Exactly 1 week ago the news broke that Versace, the Italian fashion house, has been bought by the American brand Michael Kors. Versace has been a brand surrounded by opulence and drama both on the catwalk and off it. From famous models making their way down the Versace catwalk with gold pins holding pieces together created by the iconic brand to Gianni Versace, the creator of the brand, being gunned down on the steps of his Miami home.
Image found here

Exactly 1 week ago the news broke that the American brand Michael Kors has bought Versace for around $2.1 billion. The Versace family had owned 80% of the business with the other 20% being owned by Blackstones, the worlds largest private equity firm.
My personal thoughts on the merge is that it is an interesting move for both brands due to Michael Kors being such a different type of brand to Versace, i.e. Michael Kors being at the lower end of the luxury market and Versace being an extremely high end brand. I have seen many others having the same views on the new ownership across social media during the last week with people believing Versace have made a big mistake and some even begging the Versace family not to make the deal.

After hearing about the questionable sale I went on to find
out that the Michael Kors fashion house is making even
more changes to their brand, going as far as renaming their
brand as Capri Holdings.

What are your thoughts on the latest change in the fashion world? Big mistake or exciting times ahead for the merging brands?
Let me know what's running through your head on this one in the comments.

Get The Playsuit Trend Right For Day & Night

Playsuits are potentially one of my new best friends. I find they are some of the easiest pieces to style and can be the perfect thing to elongate your legs, if done right!
I used to only ever wear playsuit that were styled for the beach or by the pool, then I found the playsuits that are styled for evenings and it changed EVERYTHING.

Daytime Play

There are some beautiful plays for both day and night around right now but this is still one of my favourite 'day' playsuits despite having it for years!
I got this from River Island after stumbling across it on the racks. I was obsessed from the word go for so many reasons; I love the fit of it, not too tight but not baggy either, with it allowing you to show your figure off nicely. The second reason was for the material, it is the coolest material you could chose and that is what every girl wants whilst on your summer holiday.

My best tip is to keep it simple, especially if your material has a bold pattern like mine. By this I mean no need for wedge heels, no need for any majorly fancy accessories in my opinion as I think the playsuit is the thing that steals the show and is what you want everyone to be looking at.

I also find that the playsuit is one of the coolest things you can find to wear on the beach this year.

Evening Styling

For me, evening playsuits changed everything and I am on the hunt for more as we speak.

This beautiful piece is from Quiz and is, again, one that I stumbled across in store. The second I saw it I fell in love; with the most gorgeous colouring and the lace detail around the waist which gives it a classic, sophisticated look whilst still showing enough skin on your hols ladies.

I always like to wear heels in the evening as you may already know; this playsuit is perfect for the option of heels or flats. The shorts of the playsuit I don't think are too short meaning you could still wear heels, I believe the length is an appropriate length for heels to go perfectly and elongate the leg.
If you'd prefer to wear flats I think a pair of black strappy sandals would go perfectly, but you want something that is fairly simple to not take the attention away from the playsuit!

Which style of playsuit do you prefer, day or night? Let me know down in the comments! x

My Ultimate Summer Swimwear Guide

No matter what your day to day style is, when it comes to swimwear all rules go straight out the window and become completely useless. Swimwear is something that can be extremely daunting and has the potential to send us into meltdown. The question I feel everyone is asking themselves right now is how do we pick the perfect swim style to keep us feeling as confident by the sea as we do in our favourite everyday pieces?
It's my job here to help you out as best I can by showing you my top three favourite swimwear pieces for this summer and telling you what I think are they key things to keep in mind when hunting for your perfect pool side look.

The One Piece Is Back

The one piece is back and it's bolder than ever!
This is the first time in years I have purchased a swimsuit and there were two key reasons why I chose this one -
1) It has a bold pattern instead of the material being plain and 2) it is a high cut one piece.
With a high cut it brings the eye to the top of the cut and will make them gorgeous legs appear to rival any model on the catwalk. Having a bold pattern will continue to bring the eye upwards.
However keep in mind that the high rise look definitely isn't for the shy, it shows off a lot more bum cheek than a traditional cut piece.

The Traditional Halter Neck

I don't know about you but I'm a sucker for a traditional bikini. I think they can be a super easy piece to throw on however it's all about finding the perfect sizing.
As a bigger busted woman I do have trouble finding ones that are the perfect fit and never tend to buy bikini's if the top doesn't come in cup sizes.

My biggest piece of advice when hunting for a bikini is to get one that comes in cup sizes, whether you're a bigger busted lady or not, as this will give a better fit overall which will both look and feel a million times better.
I personally am not keen on bikini bottoms that have a high cut on them, I much prefer a more traditional cut but as always, it's what suites your body shape best!

Bright & Bold

My final pick for this summers must haves is this beautiful bright coral halter neck bikini.

I love this bikini for so many reasons, firstly the colour; you can never go wrong with a coral colour in the summer in my opinion. It's so vibrant and fun which makes it perfect for by the pool or chilling at the beach.
This bikini is also great due to it's fit, not only does it come in cup sizes but it is also underwired which is something I really value in bikini's as it gives you that extra bit of support.

If you can't go with bright colours in the summer then when can you?
Like with every style of clothing though, it's all about what you feel most confident/comfortable in so make sure you follow your gut with that side.
